Violet Sidecar

Violet Sidecar

COCKTAIL—A classic Sidecar is one of those timeless cocktails that will never go out of style. There are many stories of the origin of the Sidecar stemming from London to Paris, most of which include a bar patron arriving in the sidecar of a motorcycle. Although no one quite knows where the original Sidecar was invented, it did first appear in Robert Vermeire’s cocktail book, “Cocktails” in 1922 making it over 100 years old. Personally, that alone is a ringing endorsement for this stunning elixir.

This little twist of the classic cocktail is simple and straightforward. I add Crème de violette liqueur, a sweet and floral taste and aroma. If you’re not familiar, it’s a must-have for your home bar. I’m obviously am obsessed with floral notes, so Crème de violette is a perfect addition and can soften almost any cocktail. With Violet Sidecar, the Crème de violette keeps the lemon citrus from overpowering the drink, leaving a sweet and perfectly sippable cocktail.
